When Transformers: Age of Extinction was first released, many fans couldn’t accept the new designs, especially Optimus Prime’s robot mode, which seemed to lack traditional vehicle elements. Some even said, “After Transformers 3, there’s no classic Optimus Prime.” However, over the years, this leader figure has become highly anticipated. Today, let’s take a look at the official Transformers Studio Series (SS) 2025 Knight Optimus Prime.
Finally, the SS series has brought us the Knight Optimus Prime with brand-new packaging and a 44-step transformation. Let’s welcome the leader himself. In Transformers toy design, creating the Knight Optimus Prime is undoubtedly challenging. In the movie, Optimus Prime’s robot form hardly shows any vehicle elements. So, what’s your first impression of this figure?
Upon handling it, the figure feels quite solid. The layering and detailing on the body, especially the head sculpt, are well-executed, capturing sharpness effectively. The upper body showcases a V-shaped physique, and the lower legs are substantial. Except for the rear wheels, the tires and front-end parts are hidden within. From the back, the entire front of the truck is attached. Personally, I find the backpack’s thickness acceptable. Let’s take a closer look at the truck’s front. I’ve also seen online that some have removed this backpack to achieve a cleaner look. Let’s try that ourselves.
First, open the tabs on both sides of the truck’s front, lift it, and then rotate. You’ll see a detachable section that can be removed with a bit of force – it’s not difficult. Now, set the truck’s front aside. How do you feel about the figure without the backpack? My immediate observation is that the exhaust pipes are now clearly visible. You might want to try this yourself. However, I prefer reattaching the truck’s front.
The Knight Optimus Prime’s articulation meets my expectations. The shoulder armor features independent, dual-segment joints. Initially, I thought there was an issue with stability, but after securing the three tabs, there were no problems. The arms rotate 360 degrees without pressure, and the double-jointed elbows allow for 180-degree movement. The skirt armor’s design doesn’t hinder waist rotation. However, a full 360-degree turn might cause the backpack to detach.The lower body’s articulation includes lateral splits, forward leg kicks, knee bends, and ankle pivots, satisfying posing needs.
Weapon-wise, it comes with the iconic sword and shield. Now, here’s something not mentioned in the manual: I discovered that the shield can open and close, so I tried removing it. Indeed, there’s a second peg hole. Although the expanded form isn’t highly accurate, it offers an additional play feature, right? The four fingers can open, allowing the sword to be held directly. Attach the shield, and he’s ready for battle! Additionally, lifting the truck’s front panel on the back enables weapon storage.
If I recall correctly, this weapon resembles the arm blade Optimus Prime used from the first to the third movie. Regarding the transformation experience, I find it enjoyable. The process involves flipping, unfolding, and reassembling with strong logic. The transformation of the upper and lower body is interconnected, not entirely independent.
Now, you’re witnessing what I believe to be the essence of Transformers:
Pay attention here: after adjusting the double joints and sliding them down, the truck front seamlessly locks into place. The arm’s rotation and folding mechanisms are intuitive, with all clips aligning perfectly. As the arms fold in, the truck’s front takes shape. After rotating, we proceed to the lower body’s transformation, which involves intricate folding and rotating, cleverly positioning the roof and fuel tanks within the calves. This particular step in the lower body transformation is my favorite. As we approach the final alignment, the transformation nears completion. I must say, I would rate this vehicle mode over 9.5 out of 10. At the moment of completing the transformation, I genuinely fell in love with it. So, everyone, what’s your impression of this vehicle mode?
For this vehicle mode, my keywords are: stylish design, strong cohesion, excellent hand feel, and intricate flame decals. The silver paint on the truck front is impressive; extending it to the entire body would be even better. Looking from the rear, the overall cohesion is commendable, with a high degree of completion – clean and sharp. Which trailer do you think would pair best with this? The undercarriage is also tidy, with no parts dragging. Let’s take another moment to appreciate this beautiful truck front. Here’s the weapon storage for you all. How does it look when fully armed?
I’m curious about your thoughts after reading this article. For me, 2025 SS Knight Optimus Prime is one of the best Transformers 4 toys, although the its backpack and calves are somewhat bulky, the backpack is removable. During transformation, you can appreciate its intricacy – clear, enjoyable, and smooth. In both robot and vehicle modes, I feel the design prioritizes the vehicle’s aesthetics over the robot’s. That’s just my personal perspective. I anticipate a future release with metallic paint and perhaps an accompanying trailer.
